What the Carrera T Is

The 2026 Porsche 911 Carrera T is the only way to buy a base-engine 911 with a manual transmission. Porsche does not offer a manual transmission on the standard Carrera or the Carrera S. The T is the sole option.

The “T” stands for Touring. Porsche first used the 911 T designation in 1968. The 2026 model continues a lineage that has represented lightweight, driver-focused specification for over 55 years.

What the Manual Transmission Actually Is

The 2026 Carrera T uses a 6-speed manual transmission. It is not the previous 7-speed manual with one gear removed. According to Porsche and Motor1, the gearbox uses the first six ratios of the seven-speed manual but incorporates the shifter linkage mechanism from the 911 GT3.

The gear lever terminates in a shift knob made from open-pored walnut. An engraved “MT” plaque is positioned beneath the lever.

Weight Reduction: What Porsche Actually Removed

The Carrera T is approximately 35 kg lighter than a Carrera equipped with PDK. Porsche achieved this through the following changes:

  • Rear seats deleted as standard. Buyers can add the rear 2+2 seats back at no additional cost during configuration.
  • Reduced sound insulation.
  • Thinner glass.

The car is not a stripped-out race car. Dual-zone climate control, Porsche Communication Management with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full suite of modern conveniences remain standard.

Who the Carrera T Is For

The Carrera T is designed for buyers who prioritize manual transmission engagement and lightweight specification over outright horsepower. It is the only 2026 911 that combines the base engine with a six-speed manual, PASM Sport Suspension, rear-axle steering, and Sport Chrono as standard equipment.

It is not the fastest 911 in the lineup. It is not the most powerful. It is the only 911 that offers this specific combination of equipment.
