Open your new car with your phone.
You are halfway to the garage. Coffee in hand. Briefcase over shoulder. The meeting starts in 22 minutes. And then — the pocket pat-down.
Right pocket. Left pocket. Jacket. Back pocket. The key fob is on the kitchen counter, 40 feet and 90 seconds away. The 90 seconds that break your morning rhythm.
With Porsche Digital Key, that morning does not exist. Your phone is already in your hand. Your watch is already on your wrist. They are your keys now. The car senses you approaching. The door unlocks as your fingers graze the handle. You press the power button and the electric powertrain comes to life. No fumble. No delay. No second thought.
This is not a gimmick for tech enthusiasts. This is the elimination of a daily friction that costs you more mental energy than you realize.
The Short Answer
Porsche Digital Key is a phone-as-key system that allows you to lock, unlock, and start your Porsche using your iPhone, Apple Watch, or compatible Android device. It uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and Near Field Communication (NFC) to communicate with the vehicle — no physical key fob required. You can share access with up to seven other people, each with customizable permissions.
Setting up Porsche Digital Key requires:
Open the My Porsche app, tap the Digital Key icon, select "Set up now," and follow the prompts in your phone's Wallet app. The car detects the pairing initiation automatically and displays a confirmation on the PCM screen. The entire process takes under five minutes.
Approaching the car: UWB sensors detect your phone's proximity and angle. The car unlocks when you reach the door handle — or automatically if you enable "Automatically unlock when approaching" in PCM settings.
Starting the car: Press the power button. The car authenticates the key via UWB or BLE. No phone retrieval required.
Walking away: The car locks automatically once you leave the UWB detection zone. No button press. No looking back.
The backup plan: If your phone battery dies, iPhones and select Android devices enter power reserve mode, maintaining NFC capability for hours after shutdown. Tap the dead phone on the door handle to unlock, place it in the smartphone tray to start. UWB passive entry is not available in power reserve mode.
As the vehicle owner, you create and manage up to seven shared digital keys. Each shared key can be configured with different permission.
| Permission Level | What They Can Do | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Full Access | Unlock, lock, start, drive | Spouse, adult children |
| Restricted Access | Unlock and open only | Valet, delivery drivers, housekeepers |
| Temporary Access | Time-limited full or restricted access | Borrowers, service appointments |
Sharing is done through Apple Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or Google Wallet — via Mail, Messages, WhatsApp, or other apps. The owner retains full control and can revoke access instantly.
Every 2026 Porsche with Digital Key includes a physical Digital Key Card, deactivated by default. Activate it through the PCM system or My Porsche app when needed — for valet parking, service appointments, or as an emergency backup. The card functions as a full key while activated.
Critical security feature: When you start the car with your digital key or physical key, the card automatically deactivates. This prevents unauthorized retention by valets or service personnel. Keep the deactivated card in the vehicle for emergencies; never store an activated card in the car.
One less object in your pocket. One less thing to charge. One less item to replace when the battery dies or the buttons stick. Your phone is already non-negotiable — it is your communication, navigation, payment, and entertainment hub. The key fob was the last analog holdout. Digital Key completes the transition.
Your spouse needs the car. Your teenager needs to move it for the driveway. Your housekeeper needs to retrieve something from the trunk. Instead of hiding a spare key or making expensive copies, you send a digital key in seconds. Set restrictions. Set time limits. Revoke access when the task is done. No lost keys. No unauthorized duplicates.
Digital Key is more secure than a physical fob. UWB provides precise location authentication — relay attacks that amplify fob signals to steal cars are ineffective because the car knows exactly where the phone is in 3D space. If your phone is lost, you can remotely pause or erase the key through your device account. If a shared key is misused, you revoke it instantly.
Samsung Wallet users benefit from EAL6+ grade security certification — the same military-grade standard used for secure government communications.
You already use Apple Pay, digital boarding passes, and mobile driver's licenses where available. Your car key is the logical next step. The integration with Wallet means your key appears alongside your payment cards and transit passes — organized, accessible, familiar. The Apple Watch version means you can unlock and start your Porsche while your phone charges on the wireless pad inside.

"I own three Porsches with InnoDrive — a Taycan, Cayenne, and 911. On all three, I have InnoDrive disabled and only use ACC and ALK."
— Taycan Forum Member, 3x InnoDrive Owner
"I came from a Tesla expecting Autopilot-level autonomy. ALK isn't that. But it significantly reduces the strain of long, boring drives where there's no opportunity to have fun. I'm happy with it."
— Taycan RWD Owner, Redondo Beach, CA
"I use InnoDrive all the time. Its main benefit is that it adjusts speed limits legally — unlike Tesla — so when you get to the speed sign, you're already at the correct speed. Sometimes there's a speed camera at the sign. That alone is worth the money."
— Taycan Turbo Sport Turismo Owner, Oxfordshire UK
Think of the last time you misplaced your keys. The couch cushions. The jacket from yesterday. The bathroom counter. The 10 minutes of panic before the 30 seconds of relief.
Now think of the last time you misplaced your phone. You didn't — you checked it 47 times today. It is your connection to everything. Your camera, your wallet, your navigation, your entertainment, your communication.
Porsche Digital Key simply extends that reality to your vehicle. The thing you never forget becomes the thing that starts your engine. The thing you already protect with biometric locks and remote erase capability becomes the thing that secures your Porsche investment.
This is not about technology for technology's sake. This is about removing the last daily friction between you and your Porsche. The key fob was a transitional object — a bridge between mechanical locks and digital identity. Porsche Digital Key completes the journey.
Porsche Digital Key is a phone-as-key system that allows you to lock, unlock, and start your Porsche using your iPhone, Apple Watch, or compatible Android device. It uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and Near Field Communication (NFC) for secure vehicle access. You can share access with up to seven other people.
The system uses UWB for precise spatial detection, enabling passive entry and exit without removing your phone from your pocket. BLE maintains continuous communication for remote functions within approximately 80 metres / 260 feet. NFC serves as a backup for unlocking when the phone battery is dead or for devices without UWB. The key is stored securely in Apple Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or Google Wallet.
As of 2026, Digital Key is available on the Macan Electric (optional, as part of Comfort Access package) and Cayenne Electric (standard equipment). It is not available on the 911, Panamera, Taycan, or gasoline-powered Cayenne and Macan models. The 2025 Macan Electric cannot be retrofitted
Download the My Porsche app, ensure your vehicle has an active Porsche Connect subscription, and have your physical key inside the unlocked car with ignition turned on. Open the app, tap the Digital Key icon, select "Set up now," and follow the prompts in your phone's Wallet app. The car detects the pairing automatically and confirms on the PCM screen.
Yes. The vehicle owner can create and share up to seven digital keys with different permission levels — full access (unlock, lock, start, drive) or restricted access (unlock and open only). Sharing is done through Apple Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or Google Wallet via messaging apps. The owner can revoke access instantly at any time.
Yes. iPhones and select Android devices maintain a power reserve mode that preserves NFC functionality for hours after the battery appears depleted. Tap the phone on the driver's door handle to unlock, then place it in the smartphone tray and press the power button to start. UWB passive entry is not available in power reserve mode.
Compatible devices include iPhone 11 and newer (with iOS 15+), Apple Watch Series 6 and newer (with watchOS 8+), Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer (Android 13+), and Google Pixel 6 and newer (Android 13+). Some older or budget models (iPhone XR, SE 2022, Galaxy S20 series, Note 20) support only NFC and BLE, requiring physical tap to unlock. Full UWB passive entry requires newer flagship devices. See the compatibility tables above for specific device support.
Yes. UWB technology provides precise spatial awareness that prevents relay attacks — the car knows exactly where your phone is in 3D space, making signal amplification theft ineffective. If your phone is lost, you can remotely pause or erase the key through your Apple, Samsung, or Google account. The physical Digital Key Card remains deactivated in the vehicle until intentionally activated for specific scenarios. Samsung Wallet users benefit from EAL6+ grade security certification.
The Digital Key Card is a physical backup key included with every Digital Key-equipped vehicle. It ships deactivated and can be activated through the PCM system or My Porsche app when needed — for valet parking, service appointments, or emergencies. When you start the car with your digital key or physical key, the card automatically deactivates, preventing unauthorized retention by third parties.
No. Digital Key requires specific UWB, NFC, and BLE hardware built into the vehicle during manufacturing. It is not available as an aftermarket upgrade or over-the-air update for existing vehicles. The 2025 Macan Electric lacks the required exterior NFC reader placement and cannot be retrofitted.
Internet is required for initial setup, key sharing, and management. Once the key is installed on your device, you can lock, unlock, and start the car without any internet connection — including in underground garages or remote areas with no cell service.
Porsche Connect Key refers to the traditional key fob with remote functions via the Porsche Connect app. Porsche Digital Key replaces the physical fob entirely, storing the key credential directly on your phone or watch in Apple Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or Google Wallet. Digital Key offers passive entry and UWB precision; Connect Key requires button presses and does not support sharing.
Yes. Apple Watch Ultra 2, Ultra, Series 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6 (with watchOS 8 or newer) support Porsche Digital Key. You can unlock, lock, and start your Porsche directly from your wrist without retrieving your phone.
Yes. The 2026 Cayenne Electric features electric doors that can be opened and closed via the My Porsche app without touching the door handles — an exclusive convenience feature enabled by Digital Key integration with the vehicle's electric door system.
