At The Top

There are few words to aptly express Champion Porsche’s delight in returning to the top step of the podium at a competitive motorsport sport event after a break of more than twelve years.

Having set class pole in Thursday’s qualifying, on Sunday’s race morning, Champion Porsche along with their driver, the extremely experienced Romain Dumas, conquered Pikes Peak, America’s Mountain located in Colorado, finishing first in the Time Attack 1 Division and second overall behind an Unlimited Division competitor.

Overnight on Saturday severe weather resulted in a layer of snow and ice forming at the top of the mountain creating treacherous conditions.  Fog then formed leaving the organizers with no option but to withdraw the top section of the mountain from the competition thereby reducing the length of the overall run from four sections to three sections and giving rise to urgent changes having to be made to the Champion Porsche set-up.  With a fixed start time set by qualifying, the #38 car left the start line at 9.54am;  no sooner had the green flag dropped than Romain was pushing his Michelin tires towards registering three quick sector times in the Champion prepared Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport.  By the time he reached the checkered flag he had set an overall time of 6:31.914 minutes.

It was to be a clear victory with the team’s closest competitor in the Time Attack 1 Division finishing over four seconds behind the #38 Champion Porsche.

A very happy Romain Dumas commented “We could not expect more, so mission accomplished.  I am happy to bring this success which is great for Porsche and Champion Porsche who did a good job all week long; it was a great team effort”.

“I echo Romain’s sentiment, it was a great team effort” said Mitra Maraj, Champion Porsche Dealer Principal.  “I cannot thank our team members, Romain, our sponsors, partners, followers and customers enough for their support throughout this program.  You dare to dream, but dreams don’t become reality by magic, it takes a lot of determination and hard work which everyone has displayed throughout.  I am absolutely delighted we have been able to bring Champion straight back to their winning ways.”
